What Happened To Baelfire? -  A Fan Theory by Mauri Lazaro

After Baelfire went through the portal and Rumplestiltskin confronted The Blue Fairy one or two things could have happened:

1) Baelfire did make it to our world a land without magic, but Blue sent Tinkerbell to find Bae in our world to take him to Neverland for him to stay until Rumple could reunite with his son, because Blue wouldn’t want Bae to grow old and die before his father could find him.

This would mean Baelfire is our “Peter Pan” although he may not have gone by the name Peter Pan on Once Upon a Time. There are similarities between him and Peter Pan. Bae was fourteen and so was Peter Pan in the original story by J.M Barrie, and, like Peter Pan, he ran away. In Barrie’s version, Peter runs away to Kensington Gardens and Tinkerbell finds him there. As far as not using the name Peter Pan, Adam and Eddy have changed names before. Captain Hook’s name is not Killian Jones in the original. Rather, Hook’s name is James and his last name isn’t known. The creators of the show might have changed his name because Prince Charming goes by the name James.

2) Blue sent Tinkerbell and Peter Pan to find Baelfire and bring him to Neverland, and Bae was one of the Lost Boys.

Either way I think Blue orchestrated Baelfire getting to Neverland from our world; the reason being that she was still trying to grant Bae’s wish to get rid of the Dark One and save his father. She chose Neverland because in Neverland no one ages. This keeps Baelfire the same age he was when he left his father. Then, when Rumple had The Dark Curse enacted and everyone was sent to a world without magic, Bae would end up in the same place as his father. Since time would stand still for twenty-eight years, when the curse broke, Bae would still be the boy his father remembered from three-hundred years earlier.

The Best Laid Plans Never Go As Planned

A few short years after Rumple lost Bae, he met with Mr. Smee in a bar. There he made a deal with him in exchange for a magic bean. While at the bar, he saw his chance to get even with the man who stole his wife, and challenged him to a duel.

At Rumple and Killian’s duel, Milah, Rumple’s long lost wife showed up to break up the fight. She then let Rumple know that she was aware he wanted the magic bean, although she didn’t know for what. I believe she did know. After all, she held Mr. Smee prisoner; she and Killian had made their own plans for the bean, and never intended to give it to Rumple. I think she planned to find Bae herself to make amends for leaving him. Of course, they all thought that he was in a land without magic at this point.

So, after Rumple killed his ex-wife, this set Killian in motion. Rumple had given him the idea of staying alive by saying “good luck living long enough” to find a way to kill him. Killian knew that in Neverland he wouldn’t grow old and he could get his revenge on Rumple. Therefore Hook and Baelfire ended up in Neverland together, either by chance or fate.

Who knows what Killian and Baelfire’s relationship was like in Neverland? They could’ve gotten along, at least for a while. Someone had to teach Baelfire how to steal and be cunning. That could’ve been Killian’s influence on him. Baelfire certainly wasn’t like that when lived with his father.

When the curse hit, I think Hook made sure that Baelfire stayed behind with him without Cora knowing. Hook might have told Bae what really happened to his mother by this time. This would be part of Hook’s revenge on Rumple by turning his son against him. Then I think Bae turned on Hook because he couldn’t handle the horrible truth about what his father did to his mother. That’s when he would have started trying to find a way out of the post- cursed Enchanted Forest.

Peter Pan Grows Up

Baelfire succeeded in coming back to our world and took the name Neal Cassidy. When Emma met him, I think he was only back in our world for four years since they are both around seventeen years old. When we first see Neal in the episode “Broken,” his window is up in his apartment is open. Peter visits houses with open windows in the original Peter Pan. During the episode “Tallahassee,” Emma asks Neal jokingly, “Where are we going to go? Neverland?” When August asks Neal if he believed in magic he was quick to believe, and, like fellow Once Upon a Time staffer Zach Van Norman, I think August showed him the picture of the dagger.

I believe Neal is Baelfire.

I totally agree with your theory that Baelfire is Peter Pan and Neal Cassidy. However, I disagree with your theory about the Blue Fairy's intentions. Rather than wanting to reunite Bae with this father I think she wanted to keep him under her control so she could use him as leverage against Rumplestiltskin. I don't know why, but I have this suspicion that "Blue Fairy" does not neccessarily equal "Good Fairy."

That's a good point. If she would be a good fairy, she'd be called the Good Fairy, right? But on the other hand, in the Disney version of Sleeping Beauty the blue, pink and green fairy ARE known as good fairies... So confusing. But I like the idea of the blue fairy being kinda evil. ;)

I believe Neal is Bae and I think he is Peter Pan. Your theory is just like mine :) and the fact August knew a lot about Bae in order to make Gold think he was just shows to me that he did meet Bae aka Neal... can't forget that part

Wait. so does that mean that Henry is rumples grandson as well? because wasnt emma pregnate with Henry before she got in jail? So if Henry is really Neals son, and Neal is really Bae then doesnt that mean that rumple is Emma's father in-law? and Henrys Rumples grandson?

Completing the dysfunctional family tree. ^^

I think he is peterpan J. M. barrie dad was a weaver like bae,s dad is also if look up michael llewelyn davis on wikipendea there is a pic of him wearing a peter pan outfit just the one bae was wearing in episode 4 with hook also there grandma,s neme was emma shocking now as for the age thing I think bae landed here help someone out in the profess of it he remember his mom with hook I think the little girl in episode 14 will be tinkerbell because archile hopper was a boy and got turn into a cricket I think wendy or jane took care of emma but when bae came to see wendy or jane he saw her decided to stay but he had to cross the line what I mean is there is lane between here and neverland once you leave you must forget everything you did in neverland so bae leaves in 1991 since hook is gone and forgets everything he did in neverland but when he got to wendy,s or jane house emma was gone because wendy or jane took her back where they got her bae vows he will find her and starts neal cassidy shocking twist it was tink who told wendy or jane to do it because bae could not get in the way of the mission but tink also had august working for her she is called the trickers for a reason .

All valid points, but remember too that when we first saw Neal in his apartment, it alluded a lot to Alice and Wonderland. He had a sign that said "Cleaner and Hatters", his pocket watch, and there were monocles in his apartment too. So I don't know? I was originally thinking White Rabbit...

Great point I also thought that maybe if to throw us for a loop and have him be possibly the March hare (Jefferson's friend). Though it does look like the White Rabbit. There has been spoilers of a character with a military background and how poignant that Rumple sent him to our world to escape war only to find himself in the military.

I like the idea of Neal being Baelfire, I don't like the idea of them being Peter Pan. I mean Neal can be Peter Pan, but not Baelifre.

RainMirror is right. They have alluded to Baelfire moving across time and space. If it turns out to be a red herring, I'm going to be disappointed as the Peter Pan thing seems corny to me. Though most of the evidence is seems to point that direction. I'm sure it will all come together and I'll be happy no matter what, but right now I don't see that happening.

Good theory. However, in the episode The Return, when Rum heartbreakingly believes that August is his son, he mentions that Bae 'crossed the barriers of time and space.' Meaning that Bae could have arrived in our land at any time and Rum's curse was to bring him here around the same time. Just another theory of course! Anything could happen!

Great theory! I am so torn when it comes to Bae. Part of me thinks it would be an interesting dynamic if Bae was Neal. Then another part thinks it would be sweet if Bae was around the same age he left Rumple when he is reunited with him. And yet the biggest part of me thinks that it would be some great drama to have Bae, Peter Pan and Neal all the same person and i am really hoping for that. ;o) Great job on this really!
