In the pilot episode, Snow tells Charming that EQ poisoned her because Regina thought she (Snow) was prettier than her. As seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-gjIO-itik Of course, this is the traditional way the story is told. But as we saw in Apple Red as Blood, Regina told Snow why she's giving her the apple. Which makes me wonder, why did Snow lie? If this were any writers but the ones in OUAT, I might just shake it off and figure they didn't know the backstory yet, as many writers don't in the first episode. But knowing OUAT's writers plant eggs and know at least major points, it makes me wonder, did Snow lie to Charming, the dwarves, Red, Granny, everyone else? Was she so ashamed of what she did as a child she lied and told this other story? So, an imortant plot point or a writer's mistake?

Yes, this has confused me for a while too! i think it could be a bit of both. I would be very very interested if Snow did lie about it. It would show a different side to her, make her psychological map more rich, etc. However I do worry that this may just be an inconsistency of the writers'- of course I hope not, but it's always a possibility. We'll see where they take this, I hope they address it next season at least.

I think, she just didn't want to tell the truth. But she tells the Huntsman, that she destroyed Regina's life. That's true, although she doesn't tell him what she did.

Well, Snow didn't know the extent of the ramification of her actions. She thought Daniel left Regina up until the apple scene. So when she writes the letter to Regina and then in ep. 3 tells Charming she ruined Regina's life, she doesn't know Daniel died. What could make her so ashamed and sickened is the thought that someone died because of what she did. Her story might have changed once a death was involved with it.

Or she didn't know that the pilot was going to be picked up and the writers would need a better reason for Regina to go bonkers

I just thought Snow was being sarcastic/joking; giving a cop out answer to avoid getting into her past.

I figure it's part snark, part knowing it was her talking about Daniel in the first place that caused all the problems. Regina trusted her, and she betrayed that trust, telling the whole world would just be twisting the knife.

Snowbelle, Woodrow, C. Fitz, and Meiriona- Lol yup, I agree with all of you. Definitely could be snark to cover up past wounds. Who knows! Hopefully it'll be addressed in season two.

I prefer to think that Snow was lying rather than it being a mistake from the pilot that will haunt the series. When Regina told Snow that she was responsible for Daniel being murdered, I think Snow was genuinely shocked and ashamed for what she had done. She even apologized to Regina after that woman had killed her father, tried to kill her and kidnapped Charming. I think Snow was so ashamed of her breaking her secret to Regina causing Daniel's death and for Regina turning into an evil psycho that she has not told anyone the truth of why Regina hates her, not even to Charming. Snow had known that Regina blamed her for ruining her life for a while, long before the apple scene. I don't think it was long after Regina married Leopold that Snow started sensing how Regina really felt about her. Regina had saved Snow's life, Snow thought Regina would be her mother - or at least her friend after Regina explained to her about True Love. Snow had to realie that Leopold only married Regina so Snow could have a mother, even if Snow thought Daniel was not Regina's True Love she had to know that Regina and Leopold did not love each other at all and that a loveless marriage sucks. Then for years Snow was fussed over by Leopold, practically worshipped for looking so much like his first wife which he made clear was better than Regina in every day. So I think that's why Snow believed she ruined Regina's life because if it was not for her Regina never would have married King Leopold and her life would have been happier. Though her comment for James about ruining Regina's life could have been pure snarkynes.

I often wondered about that as well but I can agree with the above post, it makes more sense.

In Snow falls, she tells Charming about her past, so I think it was just a mistake

Actually in "Snow Falls" she doesn't know the real reason the queen hates her.
