Posted by Once Upon A Fan on October 2, 2012 at 11:05 AM

Possible Spoilers Ahead

The result are in. You have been voting for the past 2 weeks on a wide variety of storybook characters that could fit the bill to Dr Whale's identity. Two options in particular seem to be very popular with voters. Over 2300 of you voted.

The results are as follows:

1 - Peter Pan  (34.57%)

2 - Dr Frankenstein (19.34%)

3 - Captain Ahab (8.23%)

4 - Robin Hood (6.79%)

5 - Jack The Giant Killer (6.58%)

6 - Monstro (6.54%)

7 - Hercules (4.94%)

8 - Prince Eric (4.36%)

8.65% of you voted that he was none of the above

So do you think that Whale is Peter Pan or does this rather spooky still from the latest ABC promo give evidence to your 2nd highly popular choice.

Dr Whale's episode, 'The Doctor', is tentatively scheduled for October 28th. Hopefully the answer will be revealed then.

I believe that he could be dr. Frankestein, but that story is not a fairy tale.. I also think that he could be The wizard of Oz!... But is not a fairy tale !!!!!!!!!!

Alice in Wonderland isn't a fairy tale either. It's quite a modern book by comparison. The creators have stated we are dealing with storybook characters. That gives them huge options.

That may be true, but I, personally, wouldn't really consider MULAN to be a fairytale, either, and we're now dealing with her; while she is a Disney character, her story, in my opinion, doesn't really fit the bill of a fairytale. Because this series is on ABC and is basically owned by Disney, I think that we're probably going to be sticking primarily to Disney characters; however, as far as I can remember, a Disney film has never featured Rumpelstiltskin (but he is a Grimm character), and I think that it would be really neat if the series features some characters that we wouldn't expect to see.

I am still holding to the theory that he is the Wizard of Oz, or some other member of Greek/Norse mythology. They brought Midas in, so I wouldn't be surprised if they brought more greeks in! The lightning makes me think of either Zeus or Thor. I guess we'll see!!

Dr. F. seems to be the most likely candidate. I am coming to see FTL as an important
"country" in a large and varied fantasy continent.

As of last night, I'm confident he is Dr. Frankenstein. Based on that clip from the promo and the fact that he "frames himself as victor in all conflicts." As in Victor Frankenstein. Hmmm. Sneaky sons of guns those writers are.

I'm almost convinced he's Peter Pan.

I originally guessed that he was Captian Ahab from Moby Dick. (I may be the one responsible for his name coming up in the poll.) This book may still be a factor in his name, since Peter Pan and Captian Hook were always at odds with one another because of Hook's thirst for revenge against the boy who cut off his hand. Ahab and the white whale were at odds as well. Its said that Ahab lost his mind, and was willing to sacrifice his crew in order to destroy the whale. Therefore: Captian Hook is Captian Hook, and Doctor Whale is Peter Pan, who he will stop at nothing to kill.

We can see from the scene with Regina that A) Whale is from another world and B) He has a rather large ego...maybe an ego the size of a whale?

There is a mythical creature simular to a goat that plays the PAN pipes. Its also know for its ability to attract female mates.

I missed voting in the poll but I wonder if he might be Merlin the Magician, of Camelot. They're bringing in Lancelot and he is apparently not from the kingdom reigned over by Prince Charming! I could see him as a man of power and magic who is furious at having it all taken away by the curse.
